Why is the English language becoming so debased?

I think the reason people ignore grammar is because they're forced to worry about grammar in an academic setting. When they're not in school, they feel free to write things in the easiest way possible, with limited attention to punctuation and spelling. Most people know how to spell "knew" and "more," but maybe they don't care THAT much, and don't correct their mistakes (you misspelled those words as "kew" and "'moe") unless they feel forced to do so.
